What’s for dinner?
Dining rooms are so much more than the food that is served there!

Family dinners, book clubs and science projects all take place at the dining room table. It is one of the places in your home that does double (and sometimes triple!) duty. So, when you are dreaming up the “look” for your dining space keep in mind these tips to keep it stylish and functional.
You don’t have to have a dedicated space for family and friends to gather. You can delineate the dining room by adding a rug. Use the buffet as a secondary area to store office or craft supplies. Work your table and buffet lamps so the area is flooded with ambient light.

If you do have a dedicated dining room, there are a couple of rules that will help you with placing your dining room furniture. Excess symmetry can typically be rather boring in most instances but in the dining room symmetry provides a sense of calm which will allow guests to enjoy the dining experience!

Always strive to keep the layout balanced so the room doesn’t appear to tilt in any direction. Try to have a little action on each wall; whether with paintings, sculpture or sconces.
Whether you are serving filet mignon or chicken nuggets, let your space be the place where your family and friends come together.
