Accessories

Accessories can pack a mighty punch and quickly change a “blah” room into a space worthy of conversation. Whether it is a quirky find at a local art show or a family heirloom your accessories are what tell your story to the people who come into your home. So, when thinking about what you are placing within a space details do matter.

We at Turner Home are heading to Atlanta in January to scope out the trends for 2019 and bring them to you. Here are some of the items that we have already identified and some general pointers about placing accessories that may help you.

Trends

  • • Matte black will be seen in accessories, furniture hardware and kitchen and bath hardware.
  • • Navy Blue whether in cabinets, accessories or fabric continues to be a classic staple.
  • • Gold colored metals in both antique and glossy will be seen in accent tables and a multitude of accessories. No need to change out all your metals; a little splash of gold will mix right in with chrome or brushed nickel.
  • Greenery (either real or fake) used in mixed containers and varying heights. Use in clusters to get the maximum impact.
  • • Stone/Concrete in accent pieces or on end table and coffee table tops.
  • • Teak stumps, driftwood and fossil and petrified wood table tops are all the rage and represent not only a piece of art but of history as well.

Tips

  • • Create a vignette with several items that have either a visual connection (color, shape) or share a common story.
  • • Instead of a busy gallery wall with multiple small pieces hang one large piece of art.
  • • Use rugs as a focal point with pops of color and interesting designs.
  • • When grouping accessories use odd numbers of items (3,5) which are much more interesting to the eye.

At the end of the day surround yourself with things that put a smile on your face and reflect your personality.
